Which chewelry should I choose?

What is chewelry actually for?

It gives a strong, repeatable oral input to someone who already chews — on collars, sleeves, hoodie strings, pen lids, nails. It does not stop the chewing; it moves it onto something designed for it, that can be cleaned, and that will not shred a school shirt. Because it is worn, it is there at the moment the urge arrives.

Should I start with a necklace or a bracelet?

A necklace sits at chest height and can be brought to the mouth without looking for it, so it suits a heavy or frequent chewer. A bracelet is quieter to wear and easier if a cord around the neck is unwelcome, but it needs a deliberate movement each time. For a first piece for a strong chewer, start with a necklace.

How do I read the firmness levels?

Each product page states its firmness. Start one step softer than you expect: a chew that is too firm gets rejected and never used, while one that is slightly soft still gets worn and simply needs replacing sooner. Move up only if a piece is being bitten through quickly rather than mouthed.

Is it only for chewing?

No. The pieces are textured, so they work under the fingers as well as in the mouth — rubbed along a ridge, twisted, rolled between finger and thumb. Plenty of people wear one and mostly fidget with it. The chew is the primary input; the tactile use is a real second one.

Who is it for?

Children, teens and adults. Nothing in the range is restricted by age. What changes with age is style rather than suitability, which is why the shapes run from playful to plain enough to pass as ordinary jewellery.

Will it be obvious at school?

It is designed not to be. The colours are soft and the forms are ornamental, so from a distance it reads as a necklace or a bracelet. Most schools treat it as jewellery rather than equipment, but if yours has a strict policy it is worth a word with the teacher first.

How long does one last?

That depends entirely on chew strength and varies enormously between people. Replace a piece as soon as you can see a tear, a split, or a section gone noticeably thin or soft — those are the points where a fragment could come away.

What are they made of, and how do I clean them?

Food-grade silicone, BPA-free, and compliant with LFGB, CPSIA and EC 1935/2004. Wash in warm soapy water, rinse and air-dry. Check the piece over each time you clean it; that is the easiest moment to spot wear.
