Synaptoys  ·  Our Story

Our Story.

It started with a question we heard too many times, in consultation rooms, at school gates, through the screen during late-night searches for something that actually worked.

Based on Clinical Observation

We have spent years in multidisciplinary clinical settings alongside occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, neuropsychologists, and psychomotor therapists, working directly with children, adolescents, and their families. What we saw, consistently, was the immediacy of the effect.

A child who had been unable to sit still for twenty minutes would settle within moments of having something to press or chew. A teenager who had been disengaged would make eye contact and answer questions the moment her hands were occupied. A parent who had been told for years that their child was difficult would watch — sometimes for the first time — as their child regulated.

These were not small observations. They were the nervous system receiving the input it had been asking for. The tools that existed were generic in design and stigmatising in appearance — the kind no child would choose to use in public, and no adult would leave on their desk.

“We built what should have existed already.”

The Context

The world demands more than the nervous system was built to absorb.

Children today grow up in environments of relentless stimulation: screens, noise, pace, academic pressure at a scale no previous generation has navigated.

The brain, which evolved to seek and process sensory input as a core regulatory mechanism, is simultaneously flooded with digital noise and starved of the grounding physical input it actually needs: pressure, resistance, texture, movement, rhythm.

A six-year-old who cannot sit through a meal. A teenager who chews every pen she owns. An adult who needs something in their hands to think clearly. These are not failures of behaviour or will. They are the nervous system communicating, in the only language it has, that it needs input it is not receiving. Neuroscience has understood this for decades — and it applies equally to those with a clinical diagnosis and to anyone navigating a world that demands more sustained attention than most environments are designed to support.

The Science

The science behind every product.

Every item in the Synaptoys range has been evaluated by neuroscientists and clinicians with active daily practice before reaching you. If a product does not meet our criteria, it does not enter the range.

Sensory input type

Proprioceptive, tactile, oral motor — matched to neurological function

Clinical effectiveness

Tested and validated through direct clinical use before entering the range

Material quality & safety

Non-toxic, durable, washable — built for genuine daily use

Sensory precision

Texture, resistance, density, weight — clinical variables, not aesthetic choices

Who We Serve

For every age. For every nervous system.

Children

Struggling to settle. Unable to focus.

In environments built for stillness, discreet quiet fidgets give the nervous system the grounding proprioceptive input it needs — without disrupting anyone around them.

Adolescents

Under pressure. Belonging matters.

Discreet tools used in class, in exams, in public — without drawing attention, without needing to explain themselves to anyone.

Adults

Diagnosed or not. Always found a way.

Who have always fidgeted, pressed, and moved through concentration — and deserve sensory tools designed with that need in mind, not despite it.

“Synaptoys was built for all of us.”

Our Mission

Education Is Part of What We Offer.

Science as prevention — not just as treatment.

Understanding why a nervous system behaves the way it does changes everything — for parents, for educators, and for the individuals themselves. When a parent understands that their child’s inability to sit still is a neurological need rather than a behaviour problem, the entire dynamic shifts. When a teenager understands that their brain is simply asking for input it is not receiving, shame becomes something else entirely.

Our blog translates clinical neuroscience into practical, immediately applicable knowledge — the mechanisms behind the tools, the evidence behind the recommendations, and the honest limits of both. What works. What doesn’t. And why it matters to understand your nervous system before difficulties escalate rather than after.

Design & Discretion

The Most Effective Tool Is the One That Gets Used.

Every product was selected to be genuinely desirable — discreet quiet fidgets worn without explanation and used without self-consciousness. Colours drawn from design, not medical catalogues. Forms that invite curiosity rather than signal difficulty. Confidence in using a sensory tool — wearing it, leaving it visible, choosing it because you want it — is part of how it functions.

The Mark Behind the Name

Why Is There a Spark in Our Logo?

Synaptoys brain spark logo

The Synaptoys logo was not designed arbitrarily. The spark at its centre reflects something we have observed consistently in clinical practice: the moment the nervous system receives what it has been asking for, and everything shifts.

Neuroscience tells us that purposeful sensory stimulation — proprioceptive pressure, oral motor engagement, tactile feedback — can activate regulatory circuits in ways that unlock attention, calm, and cognitive performance. That capacity is present in every nervous system. What varies is whether it receives the conditions it needs to express itself.

The spark is that moment of unlocking. A child settles and begins to engage. A teenager moves through an exam with clarity rather than friction. An adult holds a long meeting without the invisible cost of an unmet neurological need. These are not exceptional outcomes — they are what becomes possible when the brain receives the right input. That is what every product we build is working toward.
